Welcome

The essence of a healing psychotherapeutic process is feeling understood in an environment of emotional safety and mutual trust.  My approach as a clinical psychologist is to provide you with compassionate, intelligent psychotherapy which is sensitive and personal to your needs. We work together, in a partnership, seeking the ways which we find most beneficial for you.  At times, this may be an exploration and understanding of your emotions and life experiences, at other moments, this could be a focus on specific problems and possible solutions.  My style is empathic, engaged and nonjudgmental.

I have been a successful clinical psychologist with over three decades of experience working with adults, adolescents and couples.  I am both a psychotherapist trained in short term solution focused therapy and a psychoanalyst which allows me to understand problems in greater depth regardless of the length of time someone works with me. My orientation is experiential and relational, believing that attachment to others is necessary for an internal sense of security and that autonomy is essential for identity and resourcefulness. Through my many years of practice, I have sought a wide variety of training experiences which allow me to select psychotherapeutic approaches that fit your needs.

Someone who begins working with me may start psychotherapy wanting help with the immediacy of their life circumstance and want consultation, techniques for mood regulation, education or advice on how to handle a difficult occupational or relational experience.  As their present crisis settles down, they may be satisfied with the results and be ready to move on in life or they may be interested in looking in greater depth for how the crisis came to be, how they have come to feel about themselves or feel in a relationship.

Regardless of the path we take, people generally find me warm and easy to talk to in a safe and caring environment.
